Reflection 2A - Internet

Thanks to the internet, everyone now can easily share their opinions about almost everything, but is it something good, or bad? To answer this question we need to look from several different point of views. It is claimed to be one of the greatest advantages of Internet Well, this is something that I partially agree and partially disagree. What's so great about it is that you can gain information from a lot, a lot of different sources. For instance, let's think of a product that is produced recently, say a Smart Phone, you are planning to buy it but you have some questions/doubts about the product. So you can just check out thousands of user reviews from around the globe which are much more informative, objective and realistic than the company's ads that only mentions its good sides. When it comes to its disadvantages, first thing that comes to mind is pollution of information. There are tons of informations/comments/ideas that are biased, useless, unfair and unobjective and they are propably made by people who don't have the proper knowledge or experience to comment on that certain thing. So you need to be careful to not to be affected by these kind of things. You really need to work hard to find objective comments in the vast of comment.

Reflection FREE - Oedipus The King

Oedipus the King is an ancient Greek play that was written by Sophocles in the 450’s B.C, and the fact that it was written almost 2400 years ago still fascinates me. The plot, the storyline is great. The way things shape up, the intensity of the story is just marvelous. How can something that was written 2 and a half milleniums ago be this good? You would expect the story to be simple, and easy to grasp, but it is definitely otherwise. The story is more complex, the characters are more complex than even today’s plays played in theaters. Also, you hardly get bored when reading it, because it does not take to much time to reach the climax of the play, and once you get there, you just flow through the end of the story without noticing. Since I do not know ancient Greek language, I read the translated version and I feel like I have to give credit to the translator, too. The translator did a brilliant job preserving the essence of the story while translating it.

Hi, I would like to join the basketball team of METU, and I think you can really benefit me in your team. First of all, I have some pro-basketball experience. Also, I have an eternal and internal passion for basketball. I’ve been playing basketball for 7 years, and I think I’m decent enough to play in a basketball team. I’m also good at communicating with other people, so I won’t have any problem getting along with my teammates. I could play several positions whem I’m on the court: PG, SG or SF. It does not matter.

Hi The Moon readers, today I’m going to tell you about a singer whom I love very much, but is not recognized all around the globe. Thanks to this column, you will give it a shot, and listen to her. Hope you will like it. She is Gin Wigmore, she is an New Zealand singer-song writer who was born in 1986. She usually sings and writes folk rock, pop rock, pop or blues type of songs. The reason why I choose to introduce you this singer is that she is very under-rated, and does not get the attention she deserves. Her voice resembles so much to that of Amy Winehouse, that you may think that Amy Winehouse is still alive. Also, the theme of her songs looks just like Amy Winehouse’s themes: Dark, gothic, and humorous. Her best songs are: ‘’Hey ho’’, ‘’Black Sheep’’ and ‘’Kill of The Night’’. She released 3 studio albums, and 8 singles. She has more projects going forward, and I definely advice you to listen to this singer before it’s too late.

If I were to choose the person of the year, I’d choose Elon Musk, who is a South African-born Canadian-American business magnate, engineer, inventor and investor. He is also the CEO of the SpaceX and Tesla Motors, and the chairman of the SolarCity. And let’s get down to the reasons why I would choose him;

First of all, it’s the time of technology. Technology has an effect on our lifes like never before. Technology shapes the pace of life, even the duration of human life. Therefore, we need people who are technology-genius, and brave enough to think of reaching the borders no human has ever reached. Elon Musk is definitely the perfect guy who fits this definiton. He is called the ‘’real life Tony Stark’’, you may wonder what makes him so popular and a candidate for person of the year. He thinks borderless, he does not care what the odds are saying. He has projects that may be found in a Sci-Fi movie, and he tries to make them real. Actually he did made some of them real by founding Tesla Motors, SpaceX and the SolarCity. He thinks that humans should cultivate Mars, and other planets, they should expand their existence to the stars, but he does not only think, he also funds a lot, a lot money in this project. Therefore, someone like Elon Musk should be crowned with an award like this. We need more people like him, thinking without ant border, thinking things other people are afraid to even imagine.
